Videographer Larry Nimmer interviews Birgitte at the Carpinteria Arts Center in September 2022.
Birgitte Ibsen: "Danish Artist with Abstract Expressions"
Birgitte Ibsen was born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark. She had an early facination with abstract art, in particular the works of Picasso, Matisse and Chagall.
Birgitte moved to the United States in 1981, and after surviving an insurmountable illness, realized she needed to find a way to express herself without limitations. "Color is in my genes," she says. "I have no qualms with experimentation when it comes to my art."
Birgitte's current medium is acrylic in canvas. Her process includes brushes, palette knives, fingers ... whatever seems appropriate to the piece. "To me, artistic expression is like making a trip to an unknown destination.
Birgitte is a member of the Carpinteria Valley Arts Council and regularly exhibits at the Carpinteria Arts Center. She also shows in galleries throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.
"My goal is to inspire," Birgitte says. "Why not join me in my ongoing journey!"
